Chapter one
Bertram Bear was Brian's best friend and everywhere Brian went, Bertram would be clutched close to his chest. He was really everything to Brian, much more than the figure of eight racing track with its red and blue cars and much more than the spanking new computer that he had been given for his ninth birthday. If Bertram had been a human he would have been a daredevil type.. The expression in his eyes had that bravado look.
Brian's last sighting of Bertram would be when he closed his eyes to go to sleep as he cradled him in his arms.
No sooner had Brian fallen asleep, Bertram would suddenly wake up and try to remove himself from Brian's grip. Once free he decided he would investigate the room. It appeared to be very large and Bertram thought that when Brian breathed it was like being on a boat and that it was great fun riding up and down on Brian's chest.
Each night he would venture further and further away from the bed and this particular night he found himself in a big open space with lots of steps going down, but he being an adventurer decided to ride the banister. He did that five times and on the last climb up he was very weary......
